55 - Hill Country

It had been a long and dusty drive through the Arizona and New Mexico deserts, then five hundred miles of Texas plains. Just when she couldn't take any more, prairie gave way to green rolling hills and cedars.

As she looked over the lush landscape of the Texas hill country she knew she was home.

Author's Note: This summer will mark 39 years since my family moved from Fresno, California, to San Antonio, Texas. After all those long hot days driving across the desert, reaching the Hill Country was like waking up from a bad dream. It still affects me that way today.

Have you written a story in fifty-five words? Let The G-Man know!

I KNEW your were talking San Antonio!! I lived there for three years ... 23 years ago when we were first married. Would love to go back and amble along the river walk and Sea World and Fiesta Texas (or is it 6 Flags now?) Love the big ol' rabbits that hop around there and of course, the BIG sky. :) AND no one celebrates Cinco de Mayo like San Antonio.

...although, Austin was pretty cool, too.

Though I'm not really built for it, to me the hot and dry are home. It's the plains that kill me. They always feel so oppressive to me.

I actually like the New Mexico and Arizona landscapes. I grew up in New Mexico. My brother now lives in Arizona. I've never been to Texas, though.

I didn't know there was a lush spot in Texas. Learn something new every day. Guess if I had to live in Texas it would be in Austin or San Antonio. But I bet the summers are hellish.

I've been to Texas several times, and the green lushness of some of the state does freak people out.
I love how something as simple as a drive thru the dessert, can bring such inspiration.
Loved your Lone Star 55
Thanks for playing, and have a Kick Ass Week-End
