55 - Boots

Whether high heels or low,
made for ankle or calf,
all people know
they're too stylish by half.

They protect dainty feet
in all kinds of weather.
They look a la mode
in rubber, vinyl or leather.

Yes, boots can be fashionable.
Boots can be fun!
And most boots are stylish,
but not...this one.

Note:  Avulsion fracture of the fifth metatarsal, also known as a "dancer's fracture."  Recovery time, 8-12 weeks, although transition out of the boot can begin at two weeks. That's 12 more days.

Got a story you can tell in 55 words? You don't have to break anything to play! Just write your tale and share it with the G-Man!

I've seen my niece, Ashley, wear such a boot more than once, thanks to gymnastics and cheer-leading.
(Her nickname is "Crashley")

@Susan: Bad landing in dance class. Google "dancer's fracture" if you want to see some pix and get more details. It's kind of scary, really. In this type of fracture, it's not the fall that breaks the metatarsal, but the twisting of the ankle, pulling on a tendon that rips the metatarsal apart. Yuck.

You were dancing? Please tell me you were dancing and not just running around.

@Alice: Of course I was dancing, silly. I don't pay the studio $15/hour to not dance!

Ouch! Sorry to see the "inspiration" for you 55! How about 55 words next week on how it happened? And hope you heal quickly!
