I would take you
to the river,
green water,
stars above,
quiet,
peaceful,
ripe for secrets,
if only
you would share
for an hour,
for a night,
take a chance,
put your troubles
in a basket
in the water
and let it float away.
Sins of the flesh
need not be sins
of the heart,
but you saw danger,
blinked first,
and doubted.
Forget what you think
you know.
Dare to trust,
leave your nest.
leave your nest.
Take my hand
and be my
co-conspirator,
my accomplice,
clever partner
in a crime
that is no crime,
soon forgotten
here by the river,
where by morning
all our memories

Excellent. The poem moves along like the river it talks about. I can almost feel the release of letting my troubles float away.

October 6, 2013 at 1:17 PMYes..there is an effortless flow..if only we could leave behind our false nests of safety and take a chance..
October 6, 2013 at 1:47 PMWonderful! I especially like the dare to trust and leave the nest (sorry I can't see the poem as I type the comment so I'm probably misquoting your wonderful words). And as Alice said, the flow is so like the river. Very nice indeed!
October 6, 2013 at 2:39 PMThis is so beautiful but if it were me I would be lying...I would not forget, those memories would hold fast.

I thought this was beautiful. Rivers and the sea have a fascination for me as their restless nature tends to let them keep secrets well
