55 - Abandoned

Half-hidden by wild growth, it sits abandoned. Paint peels, doors go unmended. Time wears upon this silent place until the people come, chatting of abandonment, thinking themselves alone as they gather windfall chestnuts. One of them spies a movement at a window, but no, it's just the reflection of a passing cloud...

...or is it?

About Friday Flash 55: The challenge is to write a complete story in fifty-five words. If you've written a 55-flash, go let The G-Man know!

'tis NO passing cloud! This is really a fun spooky piece. I think it should be made into a children's book.. ha ha Can you imagine such a book for a 4 year old?

Everyone in my grandparents neighborhood through their house was haunted. I could never figure that out since it was clearly not abandoned and they were socially active.

@Alice: My husband and all the rest of his family believed his grandmother's house was haunted, and his aunt currently believes her garage has a ghost. I'm becoming suspicious of my own house, since things have a habit of disappearing and then reappearing in odd places.

Oh you never know where old houses are concerned. Did they ask permission of the house's former residents to go a gathering? :)

Ahhh but of course it isn't! The photo alone gave me the creeps! Time does wear upon poor abandoned places. Great 55 for the season!
