Driven by need and ego,
you filled our heads with fables,
tall tales, hero-stories.
Do not look behind the curtain.
Don't ask what's behind the mask.
When we turned away,
you thought we caught you out
and were disgusted.
Hide behind your painted screen.
Project shadows on the wall.
In truth we saw you all along
and understood the danger.
Now settled away from sifting sands,
we can keep on
loving you.
This is a Sunday Scribblings post.

Love does not always rest on solid ground..sometimes the safest place to love someone is from afar..doesn't make it mean less..Jae
September 16, 2012 at 12:06 PMThis is another gorgeous one, Ann. Oh, I'm eating my heart out that I can't write as beautifully as you!
September 16, 2012 at 2:49 PMa beautifully flowing piece....emotional....What came to my (limited) mind was an abusive alcoholic father/husband ....and they were watching him from afar to see if he sought help....
September 16, 2012 at 3:31 PMThere is no reason not to love someone with faults. They might need your love as an anchor. But loving someone does not mean it is a fair exchange. Life is not like that. A sensitive and thoughtful poem.
September 16, 2012 at 10:59 PMIt's so much easier to love the character than the person.
