Would your heart beat faster
if I dropped my poker face?
I see no substance in your smile,
just pressure to conform.
Trust in fairy tales,
believe the hype.
What charming games we play
when neither knows the rules!
If I laid my cards upon the table,
perhaps you'd be surprised.
I don't believe your future,
and the past isn't what you think.
Here in August's dog days,
steaming under summer's sun,
let's admit this game is over:
We each hold a losing hand.
This is a Three Word Wednesday post.

I like this - the resignation of it all. Sometimes this is just how we feel - we have the losing hand after all.

August 16, 2012 at 4:51 PMof wonder at the different aspects of a relationship.
Seems they are both holding back neither being their true selves. Maybe to protect from hurt or because they never really trusted. In which case the game was always doomed. Great poem :)
