It’s just a little phobia,
that we can love
and yet despise;
hold each other close
while miles apart.

And though I search
for something true,
true to life
true to you
(and me)
authenticity eludes my grasp
and I am left
with empty hands.

Should I try again
and risk contempt?

Oh, hide away the ego
and enlist common sense
to guard it,
lest we do more damage
than before.

Tiptoe quietly past.
Let sleeping dogs lie.

This was written for Three Word Wednesday.

Sometimes letting sleeping dogs lie is the best route..I suppose when striving for authenticity as a pair there must be some whittling and shaving of the edges

sometimes if we try so hard and the other person doesn't we have to let go but if we can hold on with both hands and the other person tries to it works its worth it.

Tiptoeing is easier, letting the sleeping dogs lie sounds better. You don't want to end up losing what you have, but if what you have isn't wholly what you wanted, then do you even have it? Try and risk contempt, I'd say.

Dogs have a different mindset they enjoy their dreams; paws running along, a woof here and there. I could swear if our dog was disturbed out of a dream he would moan about nearing catching a rabbit. However to answer your question, Yes! Don't give up.
