I put you in my novel.
Of course, it wasn't you,
just someone like you,
based on you,
a doppelganger.
Does this news leave you (check one):
__Curious?
__Shocked?
__Angry?
__Surprised?
Why? (explain)
Writers write:
what they know
who they know
with a few added twists
pinned together with thorns of memory
and shellacked with lies.
There is no other way.
The you I wrote isn't really you.
I added different details,
filled in the gaps of what I do not know
(things you refuse to tell).
Having created you, I can end you too.
Choose as many as apply:
__Love lost
__Love found
__Career change
__Plane crash
__Suicide
Are we having fun yet?
Why don't you sit and tell me, then,
who you really are?
End my speculation.
Be real,
unless you prefer to remain
just my fantasy.
This is a Sunday Scribblings post.

Yes we all want to be a character in a novel. You don't have to be too honest about me, but I want to like what I read, recognize me by my actions or words but woe betide you if I am a villain, unless he is handsome and gets all the girls. Those are the rules.
July 7, 2012 at 4:24 PMLOVE. Just love this one.
July 7, 2012 at 5:36 PMExpect lots of links from me to it down the road.
So true, and it can not be any other way.
July 7, 2012 at 7:49 PMThorns of memory is such a good line..I imagine plucking them out..turning them into words..the real world and real people may be difficult at times but you leave me with a sense of power in writing..a little omnipotence..maybe..Jae
July 8, 2012 at 6:29 AMomgosh, loving this one!
July 8, 2012 at 10:45 AMaren't we all in someone's novel?
the check offs are great.
@Jae: I think you've touched on a big reason why we write; it's a way to gain control over things we can't control out in the real world.
July 8, 2012 at 10:55 AMAt a writing retreat I went to in May, the instructor read us a quote to the effect that writing isn't therapy, but it is therapeutic. I know I've often taken my pain and confusion and transformed it into a sense of peace and ownership by putting it into a story.
And beautifully transformed it is too.. Jae
July 8, 2012 at 1:20 PM*shrug* Novel me if you will, but I will merely go on being friends, letting the friendship unfold the way friendships do. Tell you more? Of course. Over time.
