What costume should I wear
when I'm with you?
I size you up,
assess,
but I'm not sure.
What armor will keep me safe
in this great world?
Surely there's a way
to deflect
your bullet to my heart.
If I cloak myself in perfection,
assume the ideal disguise,
when you come with knife drawn,
you'll hurt my alter-ego,
but not me.
And if some day I'm naked,
reveal my secret identity,
will you speak or walk on by?
Will you recognize me?
Don't answer.
I'll take these trappings from a box,
be who I'm supposed to be.
Thieves and liars lurk nearby,
waiting for their chance.
This is a Sunday Scribblings post.

Thieves and liars are always circling..having the right disguise..for any scene is essential..underneath though I hope 'we' are as we truly are..strong..resilient..perfect..Jae

verification makes it really hard to comment. you'd get more comments if you turned it off. i had to do this several times to get it to work.
I like the thought of a person being different when naked! Seriously though it is amazing that clothes can create an impression that either enhances or deflates our assessment of a person. How shallow we are to be fooled this way.
June 10, 2012 at 8:35 PMIt feels like the speaker has the answers to the question already. There is an air of willingness here but also strength in being naked and true. A smart little dance.
June 10, 2012 at 10:13 PM@Old Egg: LOL you dirty old man! I'm so glad to see you back. Big virtual hugs, and don't you do that to your blog friends again, okay?
June 10, 2012 at 10:15 PMI like your idea of all of us wearing a protective costume. It certainly happens.
June 11, 2012 at 3:08 AMit's true...we costume our lives..our dreams...our souls and rarely peel off the facade...even to ourselves...who am I?...still peeling and have barely touched the first layer.
June 11, 2012 at 9:07 AMPS - I like the verification...it's like a word puzzle and I use the words created by the "verificator" to create a new universe.
Today Roothis G was created and now lives his wife and 3 children in rgoubra city...
This reminds me of the female characters in Amanda Quick's books. They inevitably have envy and malice directed at them from every corner, but avoid feeling the pain of it because of some attitude they have adopted. It makes for fun reading.
June 11, 2012 at 11:13 AMGreat poem of truth about our costumes of every day, every situation. Really has me thinking about mine.
